Emergency Medical Responder - OFA III to EMR Bridge course
7 day course 8:00am-6:00pm
Cost: $850 inclusive
This course is designed to bridge the skill gap from OFA III to EMR. Designed for people who have completed an OFA Level III course within the last two years, this 7 day, 60 hour course introduces the student to the concepts necessary to become licensed as an Emergency Medical Responder.
The Emergency Medical Responder program is the first step towards a career in emergency response or paramedicine. A pre-requisite for the Primary Care Paramedic program, the EMR course is based on both national and provincial standards for emergency pre-hospital care. Hands on and interactive, students will learn the basics of how to deal with a variety of medical and traumatic conditions. Students will gain a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, the healthcare system as it relates to Emergency Medical Services, pharmacology and ambulance operations.
Following completion of this course, students will be eligible to challenge the provincial EMA Licensing Board examinations for licensure.
Students find careers in emergency response, as ambulance attendants, in the oil and gas sector, as ski patrollers, life guards or to build their resumes in preparation for a career in fire fighting or law enforcement.
A pre-requisite for the Primary Care Paramedic and Advanced Care Paramedic programs, the EMR course is based on both national and provincial competencies.
